It's the festive season and while the kids are on school holidays, we share these kid-friendly smoothies that can be easily made using your jug blender. Why not involve the kids in making the smoothies, they might surprise you with quirky ideas beyond any adult's imagination.

They'd be your little helpers at your next party too. What's better than making kid-friendly smoothies designed by kids for kids and the young at heart?

When you throw parties, the jug blender makes it a breeze to make smoothies, even your little ones can help you make and garnish the smoothies, while you focus on prepping food and hosting guests.

To help you get started, here are 5 kid-friendly smoothie recipes that most kids will love. All you need is a powerful jug blender to easily crush ice, blend frozen fruit and process your ingredients into a smooth smooth smoothie.

1) Kids’ chocolate, banana & chocolate hazelnut spread smoothie

Nothing excites children like chocolate and chocolate hazelnut spread. Don’t leave the kids out when it comes to parties where adults have adult drinks. Score points as the aunt/uncle that makes an effort to delight the kids. Your nephews and nieces will look forward to coming to your party.

Imagine this as a banana split sundae that you put into your jug blender and turn into a creamy smoothie.

Serves 2

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. chocolate-hazelnut crème
  • 200 ml milk
  • 150 grams natural yoghurt

  1. Add all the ingredients into the jug blender, start off blending on low speed, and gradually increase to high speed. Your smoothie is ready when the cocoa powder and choc hazelnut creme are well blended with the other ingredients, a creamy mouthfeel is what you are looking for.

You can line a glass or plastic mug with chocolate sauce before pouring the smoothie. Garnish with chocolate pearls, rainbow sprinkles, cookie crumble, or crushed hazelnuts.

Tip #1: Use Turbo mode if you need an extra boost to break down large ingredients into a fine consistency

Tip #2: Substitute vanilla ice cream for yoghurt for an indulgent and icy smoothie/milk shake.

2) Berry Lemonade Slushy

A zesty perk-me-up and thirst quencher, this is a good smoothie for an outdoor party, doesn't leave you too full as it doesn't contain dairy. It's also vegan-friendly.

Braun's range of jug blenders comes with a thermo-resistant jug that blends cold and hot liquids without any risk of cracking the jug.

Serves 4

  • 475 ml water (Use tonic/sparkling for the extra fizz)
  • 340 grams castor sugar
  • 1 tsp. dried lavender or 1 sprig thyme
  • 180 grams fresh raspberries
  • 60 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 900 grams ice

  • Fresh berries
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint leaves

  1. To make lavender sugar syrup, in a saucepan, bring water and castor sugar to a boil, add in dried lavender, simmer for 5min, then take it off the heat and let it sit for an hour to infuse the lavender. Strain the syrup and store it in the fridge in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.
  2. If using the Identity Collection Jug blender, add the ice to the blender jug, select the ice-crush mode and watch the smart technology of the Identity Collection Jug blender crush ice finely.
  3. Add the raspberries, lemon juice, and half a cup of sugar syrup. Select the preset mode for smoothies. Activate turbo mode if you like an extra fine slushy.
  4. Pour into glasses or plastic cups and garnish with fresh berries, lemon slices, and mint leaves. Serve immediately to maintain the slushy consistency.

3) Strawberry, Raspberry & Pomegranate smoothie

Get into the festive mood with this anti-oxidant-rich smoothie of red fruit, reminiscent of a traditional Christmas with a lot of red. If you can't get your kids to eat their fruit, this brightly-coloured smoothie might be more palatable. Garnish with a peppermint candy cane to make it Christmassy.

Serves 2

  • 150 grams strawberries
  • 100 grams frozen raspberries
  • 200 grams plain low fat yoghurt
  • 200 ml pomegranate juice

Garnish (Optional)

  • Mint leaves
  • Candied lemon/lime peel
  • Candy cane
  • Pomegranate seeds

  1. Using the Identity Collection Jug blender, fill the jug with strawberries, frozen raspberries, yoghurt, and pomegranate juice. Seal with the lid and select the smoothie preset mode to blend your smoothie.

How simple was that? No manual control is required, the smart preset mode regulates the speed and timing by auto-sensing the contents inside the jug and stops when the smoothie is of the right consistency. All you do is wait for it to finish blending.

  1. Pour inside a glass or cup and garnish with mint leaves, candied lemon/lime peel, and pomegranate seeds. Have fun here, use one, two, or three of the ingredients, it's entirely up to you.

Tip #1: Buy fresh pomegranate juice or use the seeds for a fibre-rich smoothie which is good for our digestive system

Tip #2: Use frozen strawberries if you like a slushy-like consistency

4) Raspberry & Banana Cheesecake Shake

Can't decide between an edible dessert or a berry smoothie? The Raspberry & Banana Cheesecake Shake gives you the best of two worlds. Satisfy kids' cheesecake and smoothie cravings easily using a jug blender for a creamy drinkable cheesecake. It's easier than making a cheesecake.

As the cream cheese has a thick texture, a powerful blender like the Identity Collection Jug blender with a 1000W motor is recommended to effortlessly blend all the ingredients. If you're using the PowerBlend 3, use the turbo mode to power through the cream cheese,  it may take slightly longer to process all the ingredients to a fine consistency compared to the Identity Collection Jug blender

Serves 2

  • 1 small banana
  • 200 grams cream cheese (softened)
  • 200 grams frozen raspberries
  • 30 grams maple syrup
  • 375 ml milk
  • 6 or as needed shortbread biscuits

  1. Chop the pieces of shortbread biscuits using the jug blender into small pieces, big enough that you can chew them. Set aside 1/4 of the shortbread biscuit pieces for garnish.
  2. Add the small banana, cream cheese, raspberries, milk, and maple syrup into the blender jug. As the texture of the cream cheese is quite thick, use the turbo mode on the PowerBlend 3 to work through the thick textures easier. Add more milk if needed.
  3. When thoroughly blended, pour into a glass or cup and garnish with the remaining shortbread pieces.

Tip #1: You can use strawberry or raspberry sauce to line the glasses or cups for a swirl effect before pouring in the smoothie. Alternatively, draw some lines on the top of the smoothie.

Tip #2: We recommend softening and smoothening the cream cheese before blending with the other ingredients for easier blending.

Tip #3: The smoothie may not be cold after blending, if so let the smoothie sit in an ice bath for a quick cool down or add ice to serve.

5) Pineapple Coconut Smoothie

Pineapple coconut smoothie spells seaside holiday. Tropical and brightly coloured, it's perfect for Christmas Day brunch. A classic combination, both kids and grown-ups alike will be queueing up for this smoothie. For those who don't like berries, here's an alternative smoothie that you can offer them.

  • 3 cups frozen pineapple chunks, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons shredded, unsweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup yogurt vanilla (Plain yogurt and 1/4 tsp of vanilla essence works too)
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Garnish (Optional)

  • Dried pineapple slices to hold onto the rim of glass/cup
  • Mint leaves
  • Dried coconut shavings

  1. Place all the ingredients into a blender jug and blend until smooth. Garnish with a pineapple slice, mint leaves, and dried coconut shavings.

Tip #1: You can substitute orange juice instead of pineapple juice for a touch of tanginess.
